Räkan (The Shrimp) is a seafood joint in the heart of Stockholm. They wanted help to make all menus look the same – I ended up doing a lot more than that, improving the menus on all fronts and updating the label of their aquavit creating a coherent brand experience.

From fishy to fabulous.
New Illustrations
The duplex style was distinctively Räkan and worth keeping, but the pseudo-illustrations had to go. Nobody wants to look at cows when ordering a hamburger, and these sea insects didn’t do anyone any favors. I curated all existing illustrations and expanded their visual library with 30+ new nautical illustrations.
Curating old illustrations, removing photo based illustrations that were off-putting.

Typography
New typography throughout the menus. Rustic, imperfect and weathered – everything smelling of salt water and old books.
Menu
Making several improvements on the food menu.
Increased contrast in body text ensuring good readability.
Pricing in headlines making it easier to scan.
Monochrome illustrations – less eye strain and making red a visual cue for headlines.
